Last week, wrote a great piece about Man Repeller that really got my creative juices flowing. Piggybacking off of her letter, today’s issue is about my late favorite fashion blog.
I used to read Man Repeller every day. I can’t remember exactly when I first discovered Man Repeller, but I do remember when it all came to a bitter end. So, I want to note that this issue is not intended to gloss over the critique of the publication, but rather as an ode to its writers.
In my opinion, Man Repeller’s writers and contributors were what made the publication into the media empire it was. They were ones to pouring all the great stuff onto the site. My favorites were among Ask MR, Internet Treasure Hunt, Office Apropos, and the monthly horoscopes. But, for me, the crop of the cream were the articles in which the writers would share their styling tips and offered the reader a glimpse into their own wardrobes. Reading those pieces felt intimate and fun, kind of like chatting with a close friend about the contents of their closets.
For this issue, I wanted to reimagine some of the looks shared in my favorite Man Repeller articles. So, I went on the Wayback Machine to scoop out a few of those particular articles from archives:

5 Days, 5 Ways: Vintage Sleep Shorts You Can Do *Checks Notes* Everything In
First, we have 5 Days, 5 Ways: Vintage Sleep Shorts You Can Do *Checks Notes* Everything In by Marisa Lifschutz. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find the writer’s social links, but I still wanted to include this piece.
I distinctly remember pinning these looks back when this article was first published back in the quarantine days. I felt very inspired to get out of my sweatpants to start wearing more outside-world appropriate outfits. In honor of that, I reinterpreted the author’s looks for the post-COVID era, using the same pair of Tommy Hilfiger shorts as a baseline:
What Makes a First-Date Outfit “Good”?
For this piece, Amalie asked the Man Repeller audience for their first-date outfit criteria. The audience noted that the outfit should:
Feel comfortable and be true to your personal style
Look put together without appearing too put together
Hide all traces of sweat
Include a flirtatious element
Amalie was then styled by Harling in four outfits based on the criteria above. I thought all looks were incroyable, but since summer is upon us, I took the liberty of reinterpreting my three favorite looks to be more warm weather appropriate. 👇
3 Rainy-Day Outfits for Your Consideration
If I remember correctly, Harling wrote a couple of articles about dressing for rainy weather, but this particular article stuck with me. In this particular article, Harling styled three looks and offered her advice for dressing in rainy summer weather. She noted that:
A waterproof layer won’t save your outfit from getting wet so opt for fabrics that can handle the drizzle.
If you want your feet to be able to breathe, aforementioned rule applies to sandals as well.
If your hair gets wild in warm, humid conditions, wear a hat or wrap a scarf around your head.
With all that in mind, here are the three looks I came up with based on Harling’s tips:
